The only reason why Liverpool would let Luis Diaz leave this summer has been revealed

Luis Diaz’s Liverpool future has been under question for the last month or so.

The attacker was one of Arne Slot’s star men last term as he contributed to 25 goals across all competitions.

However, now that he’s entering the final two years of his contract and Liverpool are showing no signs of offering Diaz an extension, it feels like now could be the best time for the Reds to sell him.

The Colombia international has recently been in some of the best form of his career, and although he’d be a huge miss, the fact that he’s currently at the peak of his powers means that this could be the last opportunity for Liverpool to cash in.

Arne Slot would only sell Luis Diaz to balance the books at Liverpool

At the moment, Slot seems all for keeping the attacker at Anfield with the Colombia international being among the most prolific players in his first-team squad.

However, even though Diaz’s form was among the best in the team last season, there are other ways that Liverpool could fill the void left by his departure.

And now, as per a report from Sports Mole, even though the Anfield outfit are adamant that they won’t get rid of the Colombian this term, there is one reason why they’d be ‘willing’ to sell him.

That reason being to ‘balance the books’ after their heavy summer of spending.

Liverpool will have spent close to £300million if the deal for Hugo Ekitike goes through and, as they’ve only sold £50million worth of players thus far, some of their first-team players will have to be moved on.

Liverpool selling Luis Diaz might not actually be the worst thing in the world

Even though Diaz would be a sore miss at Anfield, it might be the smartest thing for Liverpool to do.

Ever since the summer transfer window first opened, Diaz and Darwin Nunez have been the two most-linked players with an exit.

And, now that Juventus have entered the race for Nunez, it feels like it’s only a matter of time until Bayern make their second bid for Diaz.

By the end of the 2025-26 season, Diaz will be 29 years old and will only have a year left on his deal, which will likely halve his value straight off the bat.

So, while players such as Rodrygo and potentially Malick Fofana are available on the market, selling Diaz might not be the worst idea ever.

Of course, these are all just rumours at the moment, but on the face of things, it makes plenty of sense for Liverpool to move the winger on this summer.
