Key meeting set over Luis Diaz future as Liverpool prepare to lock horns with Bayern Munich

Luis Diaz’s time with Liverpool feels like it’s coming to its natural end.

The attacker has been a fine servant for the club since he arrived in 2022, and although he still has two years left on his deal, it’s clear that the Colombia international wants to leave.

Arne Slot sees the attacker as a key cog in his plans for the next season or so, with the Anfield outfit holding firm with their ‘not for sale’ stance thus far.

However, after a new update has just emerged from Germany, things could be about change dramatically.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich are set to have a meeting about Luis Diaz’s future

Even though Liverpool want to keep Diaz among their ranks, so far, there have been no signs from the Merseyside outfit that they’d like to extend his stay.

In fact, earlier in the transfer window, it was even reported that Liverpool wouldn’t be bothered if they ended up losing him for free at the end of next season.

And, although they’ve stood their ground up until now, a new report from German journalist Christian Falk seems to have turned things upside down.

“There will be a meeting between Bayern and Liverpool for negotiations for a transfer of Luis Díaz (28) soon,” Falk wrote via his personal X account.

“The poker is influenced by the Transfer of Hugo Ekitiké (23/Eintracht Frankfurt).

“Liverpool FC is preparing a mega offer of €100 Mio for Ekitiké. Should Liverpool get their desired player, they can invest the transfer fee of Díaz.”

Liverpool should sell Luis Diaz this summer

Even though Liverpool rates Diaz at around £87million, if an offer over the £70million mark comes in, then it should be strongly considered.

Indeed, the Reds did pay around €54million (£46million) including add-ons for Diaz back in 2022 so any fee around that mark would be seen as a profit.

But, since the Colombian is a much better player now than he was when he first joined, it makes sense why Liverpool are demanding such a high fee.

However, now that Diaz has handed in a transfer request and has made his stance more than clear, it feels like the best thing Slot could do is sell him and reinvest it into his replacement.

Players such as Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon have been rumoured to be interested in an Anfield switch this summer, but until the future of Diaz is decided upon, it’s unlikely that a decision will be made over either of them.

Of course, only time will tell what the future has in store, but for now, Diaz seems to be more out than in.
