Liverpool have been one of the most dominant teams in the transfer market this summer.
They’ve already broken their club-record transfer fee by bringing in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116million.
And, while their other signings bring their total spend close to £200million, it feels like Arne Slot still wants to make one or two additions to his ranks.
Players such as Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi have been among those rumoured to be interested in an Anfield switch this summer; however, it’s neither of those which could end up being controversial.

Liverpool have discussed signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United this summer
One of the main areas that Liverpool have been looking to strengthen this summer is their attack.
Last season, Mohamed Salah had the campaign of his life with the former Chelsea man more or less carrying the Reds on his back.
This realisation has made Slot bring in creative players such as Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, but they’re still missing a regular scoring striker to lead their attacking line.
And, while Isak and Hugo Ektike are likely at the top of Liverpool’s shortlist, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is a potential back-up option for Slot this summer.
Rashford has had a rough time of it over the last couple of seasons, with United failing to see a future for him at the club.
Indeed, he did make a fairly decent name for himself during the second half of the 2024-25 season with Aston Villa, but unfortunately for Rashford, the £40million fee was too much for them to commit to.

Why Marcus Rashford would be one of Liverpool’s most controversial signings
Liverpool and Man United are arch-rivals, and the thought of Rashford even putting on a Liverpool kit likely sends shudders down the spines of most fans.
However, due to his versatility of being able to play on the left wing or as a number nine, it’s clear to see why a potential transfer has been discussed, especially with how desperate Ruben Amorim likely is to offload him.
While he may not be the player he was five years ago, it’s clear that Rashford hasn’t lost his eye for goal, as he contributed to 9 goals during his time with the Villans.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
| 17 | 4 | 5 |
Indeed, only time will tell whether Slot will actually make a move for the Englishman, but while it would be funny to see him representing the Red of Liverpool, it’s hard to see how a move like that would ever work out.
