‘Deal considered off’ for Hugo Ekitike as Liverpool and Newcastle learn new striker fate

Liverpool, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak have all dominated the transfer headlines over the last few days.

It’s well-known that Liverpool have wanted to add some extra firepower to their ranks this summer, with the addition of Florian Wirtz only being the start.

Last season, the Reds were overly reliant on Mohamed Salah, and if they want to compete for each and every trophy, they need more than just one reliable attacker.

And now, it seems like Liverpool have finally got their answer on who they’re going to sign out of Ekitike and Isak this summer.

Newcastle are now out of the race for Hugo Ekitike

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account, it seems like Newcastle have now dropped out of the race for Ekitike.

“Understand Newcastle have now already left talks for Hugo Ekitike, deal considered off at this stage,” he wrote.

“Newcastle now focus on different targets as since Monday bid got rejected, Liverpool entered race, and there were no advances with the Magpies.

“Liverpool are now advancing.”

Liverpool have agreed a six-year contract with Hugo Ekitike

So, Ekitike it is then.

Now that Liverpool have seemingly chosen to go ahead with their move for Ekitike, the move for Isak will no doubt be off the table.

And now, as per another report from journalist Fabrice Hawkins, it seems like Liverpool have agreed a six-year contract with the Frenchman.

“EXCLUSIVE Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool reached an agreement over 6 year contract,” he wrote via his personal X account.

“The player only wants Liverpool. In the last 24h he has rejected Manchester United. Newcastle have already left talks.

“Negotiation ongoing between Frankfurt and Liverpool.”

Now that Liverpool’s striker saga is seemingly over, it’s time for Slot and Richard Hughes to be looking at which players they can sell this summer.

And that’s because even though the Reds may have a little more wiggle room in their transfer budget, if they want to make any more impactful signings, they will likely need a tad more PSR headroom before they can do that.
