Liverpool have had a long-standing interest in Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international seen as their dream target.

The striker was in fine form for Newcastle last season and has been linked with a Liverpool move for as long as many can remember.

Several other strikers, such as Hugo Ekitike, have also been linked with an Anfield switch, but every time a new name has popped up, the Reds’ interest in Isak has stood firm.

And now, it seems like Liverpool could be putting everything in motion to finally get that deal over the line.

Liverpool approach Newcastle to make Alexander Isak bid

As per a fresh report from Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account, Liverpool are set to break their club record again to try and sign Isak this summer.

“Liverpool made club to club approach with Newcastle to discuss record bid for Alexander Isak,” he wrote.

“If Isak won’t be available, Liverpool can enter Ekitike race.

“Decision up to Newcastle as they never wanted to sell Isak + offer new deal.”

Alexander Isak is perfect for Arne Slot and Liverpool

Ever since the transfer window opened at the start of June, Isak has been linked with an Anfield switch.

There’s no denying that the attacker is an exceptional striker, and with the amount of Premier League experience he has, he’d be the perfect candidate for Liverpool’s number nine.

One of the main things Slot’s attack was missing last season was a regular scoring striker.

And, seeing as though Isak bagged 27 goals across all competitions last season, he fits the bill perfectly.

Indeed, Mohamed Salah managed to pick up the pieces last and put in the performance of his career, but he can’t be expected to do that again in the 2025-26 season, which is why a new striker is essential.

At the moment, the Reds have seemingly just opened talks with Isak, but if this summer transfer window has shown us anything, it’s that Richard Hughes and Slot will stop at nothing to get their man.
