Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has tragically passed away after being involved in a car crash.
Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were killed on Thursday morning in the province of Zamora.
BBC News confirmed the story about Jota, with the attacker only recently getting married to his girlfriend Rute Cardosa.
The car reportedly suffered a flat tyre and then caught fire while they were trying to overtake the vehicle in front of them.

Liverpool have now released an official statement regarding the situation.

After news of the accident first broke on Thursday morning, unconfirmed reports were shared.
Since then, however, Liverpool have made a statement confirming the devastating news about the former Wolves man.
“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre,” they wrote.
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
FC Porto share statement on Diogo Jota and Andre Silva
Tragically, Jota’s brother was also in the car and passed away next to his brother. Silva was only 25 years old and played for Portuguese outlet Penafiel.
However, before they went their separate ways, both started out their careers with FC Porto, who have also shared a statement on both players.
“FC Porto is in mourning,” they wrote via X.
“It is with shock and deep sorrow that we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth ranks.
“Rest in peace.”
It’s hard to fathom how someone so young can be taken away just like that.
