Ibrahima Konate’s Liverpool future may already be decided as PSG share stance after rejected talks

Ibrahima Konate’s future has been a frequently visited topic at Liverpool over the last few months.

The centre-back is entering the final year of his deal with the Anfield outfit, with no signs of a deal being reached in the near future.

Konate opened up about his contract and said things were progressing well, but since then, something seems to have changed.

Reports surfaced yesterday that stated Konate was disappointed with Liverpool’s latest contract offer, with the Frenchman even going as far as rejecting their proposal.

This has, once again, cast doubts over what’s set to come ahead.

When a player of Konate’s calibre comes onto the market, every big club in football is linked with an interest.

And, the fact that he could be available on a free transfer next season means that numerous different teams will be interested in acquiring his services.

And, according to a report from Sports Zone via X, it seems like Luis Enrique’s men are willing to play the long game.

“Status quo on the Ibrahima Konaté file: Paris knows that time is on its side,” they wrote.

“Paris dreams of a defensive sector with 3 top-level players with Pacho, Zabarnyi, and Ibou Konaté.

“Waiting a year to see the plan take shape doesn’t bother Paris.”

Liverpool cannot let Ibrahima Konate exit Anfield for free next summer

Liverpool have already had a massive free agent saga with Trent Alexander-Arnold this season, with the right-back choosing to make the switch to Real Madrid.

Indeed, the Englishman did win everything possible with his boyhood club, but many expected the Liverpool academy graduate to at least get some sort of fee for his services.

Instead, he allowed his contract to run down, and although the Reds got a few million to allow Los Blancos to take him a month before his contract ended, it’s nothing compared to what they would have got if he had two or three years left on his deal.

Konate is on a similar level to Alexander-Arnold, and allowing a player of the Frenchman’s calibre to leave on a free transfer just a year after the right-back would be foolish.

Granted, Liverpool have been linked with the free transfer of Marc Guehi next summer, but with the number of teams interested in him, it feels unlikely that he’ll be a Crystal Palace player by the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

It’s anyone’s guess what Liverpool’s team will look like at the start of the 2025-26 season, but if they end it by allowing Konate to leave for free, it’ll be a massive mistake on their behalf.
