Having splashed the cash so far, Liverpool will need to recoup some cash through sales, with Luis Diaz seeming likely to leave Anfield.

FSG have wasted no time whatsoever this summer, with Jeremie Frimpong’s Anfield arrival soon to be followed by the record £116m signing of Florian Wirtz.

Milos Kerkez is also expected to join Liverpool in a move that could take the club’s spending to just shy of £200 million.

Having not spent money like this in years, the Reds hierarchy will be wanting to balance the books with some sales and could see Diaz as the perfect way to raise cash.

It almost seems like Wirtz’s arrival has put the nail in the coffin for the Colombian’s Anfield career, with Diaz deciding against extending his apartment lease on Merseyside.

With his heart seemingly set elsewhere, Diaz’s links with Barcelona have continued to grow over recent weeks.

Liverpool are open to negotiating with Barcelona and have now reportedly set their price tag for the 28-year-old.

That is according to Spanish publication SPORT, who claim the Reds are looking for a fee in the region of £68 million this summer.

Barcelona, though, are reportedly not wanting to go that high for Diaz, with the La Liga outfit only willing to pay up to £51 million for the attacker.

FSG should cash in on Diaz this summer

Despite the difference in valuations, Liverpool would be wise to bite the bullet this summer and take the £17 million hit.

Currently 28 years old, with two years left on his deal, this may be the last opportunity to get a good fee for Diaz.

There are plans for Diaz to play as a striker next season, but with targets such as Hugo Ekitike on offer, the clever move would be to cash in and use that money elsewhere.

The past sales of Philippe Coutinho and Fabinho should act as an inspiration for when to sell at the right time.
