Liverpool are causing excitement amongst their fanbase after signalling an intent to be active in the transfer market.

The Reds have had a quiet couple of years when it comes to signing players but look set to change that this summer.

Florian Wirtz is the star attraction, and Liverpool are getting closer to striking a British record deal to sign the German from Bayer Leverkusen.

In the meantime, the first deal has already been sealed. Wirtz’s Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong signed on Friday to become Arne Slot’s third signing since taking over as Liverpool head coach.

Frimpong looked delighted to be joining the Reds after being unveiled at the Liverpool training ground on Friday.

And after he officially became a Liverpool player on Sunday, the 24-year-old couldn’t help but send another message of appreciation.

Virgil van Dijk welcomes Jeremie Frimpong

Part of the appeal for Liverpool in signing Frimpong is that he already knows, and has played with, several members of the Reds’ squad.

One of these is captain Virgil van Dijk, and after Frimpong posted a heartfelt message to Instagram on Sunday, the centre-back offered his reaction.

“Seeing the smiles on the people you love means everything. Grateful and honoured to be a red. Let’s get this started,” wrote the Dutchman.

Van Dijk could be seen in the comments, offering a ‘praise’ emoji by way of response.

Ryan Gravenberch has confirmed he has already FaceTimed Frimpong after his arrival, and the midfielder was also quick to reply on this occasion, too.

“Yesss lad,” wrote Gravenberch, perhaps mimicking Frimpong’s attempt at a Scouse accent from back in March.

Liverpool close to adding another new full-back

Frimpong is going to be an exciting addition for Liverpool. His rapid, all-action style will be enough to get supporters off their seats.

Furthermore, the Netherlands international clearly wants to be at the club, which is always nice to see.

And it looks as though Frimpong will not be the only full-back arriving at Liverpool this summer. Van Dijk could be getting a new teammate to his left next season, too.

According to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam, there is set to be movement on Liverpool’s deal to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

“It’s a transfer that’s been spoken about for what feels like months, but there has been no club-to-club communication as of yet, despite what’s been said from other outlets and on social media,” says McAdam.

“I think this week could be a big week though. I get the feeling this week there will be movements made.”
