Federico Chiesa could now push himself out of Liverpool after major AC Milan update

Federico Chiesa has had a rather forgettable campaign for his debut season with Liverpool.

The winger was brought in during the summer transfer window as Arne Slot’s only first-team signing, and while he may have only cost the club £12.5million, his performances have been rather underwhelming.

Mohamed Salah has once again been Liverpool’s star man, with most fans expecting Chiesa to offer the Reds another option on the right wing to allow the Egyptian King the odd rest here and there.

Instead, Slot has chosen against playing the Italy international as he’s only made five Premier League appearances all season.

So, with that in mind, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see the Italy international being linked with an Anfield exit already.

Federico Chiesa could force his way out of Liverpool if AC Milan make a move for him

Even though Giorgio Chiellini labelled Chiesa as “unstoppable” in one-on-one situations, the Italian has failed to prove his worth to Liverpool this term.

And, as per a report from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Chiesa could now push himself out of Liverpool after only playing 446 minutes this season.

The report outlines that AC Milan are the team most likely to make a move, with the Serie A side’s preferred deal being a loan with an option to buy worth around €15million (£12.5m).

However, the ‘main issue’ that remains is Chiesa’s yearly salary, with this being one of the ‘necessary’ things still to be negotiated with Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa should be allowed to leave on loan

Even though Liverpool only spent a minimal amount bringing the Italian in last summer, his performances have still been rather underwhelming.

However, as has been shown by his form in Euro 2020 when Italy snatched the title away from England, on his day, Chiesa can be lethal.

Of course, the step up from the Serie A to the Premier League is a massive leap and will take time for him to adjust.

However, seeing as though he’s hardly played any games for the Reds this term, he needs to get more game time under his belt so that he’s ready to fight for his place at Anfield.

So, even though Chiesa should be allowed to leave on loan, it feels like an option to buy shouldn’t be included in the deal.

This would then allow the Reds to be covered on all fronts, as, if he has an impressive season, they’d be able to demand more or even keep him and have him as Salah’s understudy as he enters the final year of his extended deal.

Only time will tell what the future holds, but on paper, it’s hard to see a world where Chiesa doesn’t at least look for a season-long loan move to get back into the swing of things.
