Liverpool are ready to spend big this summer, with the defence set to be the focus for new additions in the transfer window.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool means a new right-back is needed at Anfield, whilst the Reds could also lose Jarell Quansah if a tempting enough offer comes in for the England international this summer.

Another position that needs work is left-back, with Liverpool looking to overhaul their options in the area after two somewhat disappointing seasons from Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, who are yet to really impress under Arne Slot.

Yet it now appears that Liverpool have now identified their number one target for the position going into the transfer window.

Liverpool eye Milos Kerkez as their main left-back target

According to the Telegraph, Milos Kerkez is Liverpool’s priority target for a new left-back this summer, with the AFC Bournemouth defender enjoying a breakout year with the Cherries, who this season could finish in a European spot.

As per the report, Liverpool have held an interest in Wolves fullback Rayan Ait-Nouri, but the Molineux side are now working on handing the Algerian international a new contract, having enjoyed another good season in the Premier League.

With Jamie Carragher lauding Kerkez as ‘fantastic’, the Hungary international could be an exceptional long-term signing for Liverpool, having impressed so much for Bournemouth in what could be a historic season for the south coast side.

And with Liverpool now identifying Kerkez as their main priority target for the left-back position, the Reds now need to ensure that they can secure the 21-year-old fullback’s signature, with the transfer window now weeks away from opening.

Liverpool can’t afford to wait around to sign Milos Kerkez

Having left it until the last minute to secure new contracts for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, it’s clear that Liverpool time is different to what the rest of the world is used to, with deals now seemingly taking longer than needed to to get completed.

And with Liverpool eyeing Kerkez as one of their main targets for the summer, the Reds can’t afford to wait around to sign the Bournemouth defender, who will have other suitors after such a strong year in the Premier League.

Indeed, everything is there for Liverpool to make a first move for the defender, and the Anfield side need to ensure that they can reach an agreement for Kerkez with Bournemouth at the earliest possible window if they’re to enjoy a productive summer.
