Liverpool are still basking in the glory of their 20th English league title win after an amazing day at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds got the job done against Tottenham Hotspur and won the Premier League with four games to spare, unleashing a huge party inside the stadium.

The scenes soothed the heartache of not being able to celebrate Liverpool’s last Premier League title – in 2020 – and sent a reminder of just how big this club is.

Perhaps more importantly, the Reds championship win means they have now drawn level with Manchester United for the most titles in English football history.

With United sitting down in 14th place in the Premier League table, there is currently no debate about who is the better of the two teams.

However, in the wider context, which club is the biggest around is certainly a much closer debate. And as he mourns Liverpool finally matching his beloved United, Gary Neville has asked Artificial Intelligence to provide the ultimate answer.

AI backs Manchester United as England’s biggest club

Neville was at Anfield on Sunday. However, brilliant footage has emerged of the pundit sneaking out of the commentary gantry as soon as the full-time whistle sounded.

Neville is United through and through and it’s clear just how much Liverpool’s 20th title has wounded him personally.

Speaking on the It’s Called Soccer! podcast this week, though, the former right-back was keen to claw back some pride for his former team.

And after insisting that United are still the biggest club in the country, Neville aimed to settle the debate by asking AI for an unbiased assessment.

“Let’s put it into ChatGPT. Who is the biggest football club in England?” said Neville, pulling his phone out. “It’s doing what it does, it’s loading… ‘The title of the biggest club depends on how you define the biggest. Here are the main contenders based on different criteria. Historical success, global fanbase, recent success, revenue and global and commercial power.

“Historically Liverpool and Manchester United are neck and neck. Manchester City are currently the biggest on the pitch. Commercially and globally, Manchester United’. Who is the biggest, though, you muppet? Oh, there we go, I’ve pushed it, if we have to name one club, Manchester United. There you go. United are the biggest club, always will be I think, but Liverpool are the most successful club and that hurts.”

How do the trophies stack up?

Measuring the biggest football club is always a difficult process, as there as many intangibles that come into play.

But whatever way you stack it, in England, United and Liverpool are certainly the two biggest. In fact, when looking at each of the stated categorisations, no one else really comes close.

In terms of pure trophies, though, there is now only one winner. Neville can cope with it however he chooses to, but Liverpool are clear of their north west rivals.

English league wins are now level after years of the Reds trailing, but Liverpool’s six European titles is still exactly double the amount United have won.

United have the more FA Cups – 13 to eight – while League Cups are 10 to six in Liverpool’s favour. The Reds Devils lead two to one in terms of intercontinental successes, while for Europa League’s it’s 3-1 Liverpool. It’s all tight, but trophies are what matter, and in that respect, Liverpool are the kings.
