One of Liverpool’s clear priorities in the summer transfer market is ensuring they sign up a new starting left-back.
The Reds have had eight years of magnificent service from Andy Robertson, but over the course of the season it has become clear that he is starting to decline.
As a result, rumours have been rumbling on for some time that Liverpool are targeting Milos Kerkez as their ideal replacement for Robertson.
But Rousing The Kop understands that although Kerkez is currently the favourite to arrive, there is no guarantee that the Hungarian will join this summer.
Liverpool are pondering a move for Antonee Robinson instead, as Kerkez continues to attract interest from other clubs across Europe.
As well as Kerkez and Robinson, though, Liverpool should have a very close eye on what’s going on with Daniel Svensson at Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool should be noting Daniel Svensson form
After being linked with Liverpool in the Autumn, Svensson went on to join Dortmund on loan from Nordsjaelland in January. The German club have an option to buy the 22-year-old this summer.
Since then, Svensson has been showing his potential. Sunday brought the latest showing of the Swede’s quality. He bagged two assists as Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 3-2.
That followed on from Svensson bagging his first Dortmund goal last weekend against Borussia Monchengladbach. He is already a fixture in the team.
Svensson confirmed he knew Liverpool had been watching him last October and having now stepped up to a bigger stage, there’s no reason the Reds will have averted their gaze.

Svensson has been described as a ‘machine‘ by his former teammates and he is clearly on a path to a career at the top of the European game.
Obviously, with Svensson in such good form, it seems probable that Dortmund will activate their option to buy the Sweden international. However, nothing is done until it’s done and having seen him prove himself in the Bundesliga, Liverpool can still pounce.
Liverpool should ponder Svensson hijack
It’s probable that Liverpool’s reticence to sign Svensson in January was down to two things: the youngster being yet to play in one of Europe’s top leagues and the fact that both Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are still in the Liverpool squad.
However, both of those things are likely to no longer be the case come the summer. After seeing what Svensson can do, the Reds should be exploring whether a move to Anfield is possible.
Dortmund may be the player’s preference, but if Liverpool can up whatever the German side have agreed to pay, then maybe there’s still a deal to be done with Nordsjaelland.
Whatever they’re asking for, it is likely to be far cheaper than the reported £40-45m Bournemouth are looking for to let Kerkez leave.
It may upset some at Jurgen Klopp’s former club, with whom Liverpool have a good relationship, but if Svensson continues his good form over the next couple of weeks, we’d argue there’s a serious conversation to be had over whether the Reds can jump in.
