Liverpool fans have had enough of Darwin Nunez after striker deletes controversial post aimed at Arne Slot

Liverpool supporters have been in jubilant mood ever since Wednesday’s draw between Arsenal and Crystal Palace left them on the verge of a Premier League title.

The Reds will secure their 20th English top division championship if they manage a point or better against Tottenham on Sunday.

But while fans have been busy planning out their day’s and booking Monday off work, Darwin Nunez has once again thrown a spanner into the works.

Nunez has had a poor season and is expected to be sold this summer after three disappointing years at Liverpool.

Despite initially looking promising under Arne Slot, the striker has fallen out of favour recently and is without a start since March 8th. Slot denied rumours Nunez isn’t starting for financial reasons on Friday, after claims from Portugal that Liverpool will owe Benfica more money if the 25-year-old begins one more match.

Nunez clearly bought into the reports, posting then deleting a frustrated message on Saturday. And as they stand on the brink of a big day on Sunday, Liverpool fans have now had enough.

Liverpool fans fume with Darwin Nunez

As reported in the Liverpool ECHO, Nunez allegedly gave his reaction to suggestions that a lack of game time has been down to the Reds trying to save money.

“No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…” Nunez is said to have written. Understandably, the reaction from Liverpool fans has been ferocious.

“Darwin Nunez career is officially over. Just freeze him out and sell him in the summer,” said one supporter. “Nunez is not worth the headache to me,” another added. “Has potential and can bang at another club but it’s best for both parties to just separate. It happens.”

“A day before we can win the league btw, I can’t wait until Nunez leaves this club, can’t believe I’ve ever defended him,” someone else wrote, furious.

“Nunez has been a complete nightmare from start to finish, from getting sent off on his home debut to crying the day before we win the league title,” another supporter opined. “I usually don’t have any ill-feeling towards a Liverpool player but I can’t wait until he’s gone and we can pretend he never existed.”

“Darwin Nunez has more deleted tweets than goals for Liverpool,” said someone else. “Biggest flop we’ve ever had and has given nothing but headaches and disbelief at what you’re watching on the pitch,” another claimed. “Thanks for Brentford, Forest and Newcastle (3 years worth of games).”

“Darwin Nunez posted this and then deleted it. Can’t wait to see the back of him to be honest,” another fan admitted, while others compared the Uruguayan to some of Liverpool’s poorer signings of the past.

“24 hours before a historic day and Nunez is begging to be in the headlines. Who does he actually think he is? Ego of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ability of El Hadji Diouf. Worst signing in our history.”

No way back for Nunez at Liverpool

This really is not a good look for Nunez. It is understandable that he is frustrated at having played little recently, but there are ways to go about voicing that.

Slot has clearly stated that his lack of starts has nothing to do with any financial implications for the club. To question that in a public way is clearly an attempt to undermine the Liverpool head coach.

As a result, it would not be a surprise if Nunez was omitted from the Liverpool squad for the rest of the season.

The No.9 will surely be sold in the summer, but until then it is perhaps for the best if he does not feature at all on matchdays. At the very least, Nunez is going to have some explaining to do on Saturday morning.

It is a real shame how things have gone for the former Benfica man and he has made some significant contributions at times over the years. But this is just the latest signal that a parting of ways is now inevitable.
