Liverpool supporters have been getting used to seeing some different faces at right-back over recent weeks.
The Reds have had to make do and mend at full-back since getting beaten by PSG in the Champions League in March.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley out injured, both Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah have had a go in the position. It has been a Liverpool academy affair.
Another player to have spent time in the youth ranks at Liverpool was Anthony Gordon, who has since been heavily linked with a return to Anfield.
In the meantime, Gordon has given Liverpool – and especially Alexander-Arnold – some tough moments over recent seasons.
And as Trent gears up to leave the Reds for Real Madrid this summer, Gordon has now revealed his honest thoughts on playing against the Liverpool right-back.
Anthony Gordon rates Achraf Hakimi over Trent Alexander-Arnold
Had things panned out differently, Gordon and Alexander-Arnold could have been teammates this season.
Gordon almost joined Liverpool last year and although Newcastle ultimately pulled the plug and gave him a new contract, perhaps the former Everton man will still end up a Red.
If he does join, Gordon will link up with best friend Jones. The two are teammates with England and recently took part in a ‘Roommates’ quiz for the England team YouTube channel.
With Jones having to guess Gordon’s answers to questions, he was asked who the toughest right-back the Newcastle winger has ever faced is: Kyle Walker, Achraf Hakimi or Alexander-Arnold.
“When we’ve played against Ant, we’ve obviously spoken us three about when Ant’s been against him [Trent] and we’ve always had a joke about it,” Jones smiled. “So, I’m not going to go with Trent…”
The Liverpool midfielder opted for Walker, which Gordon confirmed was an incorrect choice. Having named Hakimi as his hardest opponent, the 24-year-old then explained why.
“Honestly, PSG away was one of the hardest games I’ve ever played,” said Gordon. “He’s top. They’ve all got their own qualities, Trent’s good on the ball, Walks is so fast and strong, Hakimi on the ball. Trent going forward, Walks going back, Hakimi mix of both.”
Gordon confirms Steven Gerrard admiration
Another of the questions Jones was asked to answer on behalf of his friend was who Gordon’s childhood footballing hero was: Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney.
“Ant played at Liverpool academy when he was younger, he’s obviously a Scouser” answered Jones. “Everyone knows his family are all Reds and knowing that I’m going for Steven Gerrard.”
“Correct,” Gordon later confirmed. “Stevie G. I think he’s every Scouser’s idol isn’t he.”
With Liverpool still sniffing around Gordon, there’s a chance his boyhood dream of emulating Gerrard and playing for the Reds will one day be realised.
If he does eventually roll up, he may well face Trent again, but this time against Real Madrid.
