Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been two of Liverpool’s best players this season, yet it’s their contract situations that have taken up most of the airwaves.
The Liverpool duo are both on course to become free agents this summer with Salah and Van Dijk’s deals both coming to an end, with the Reds currently in a race against time to secure their two star players to new contracts.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to join Real Madrid with the Liverpool defender’s contract coming to an end as well this summer, there is a good reason why supporters are worried about the immediate futures of Salah and Van Dijk.
Yet David Ornstein has seemingly ended any fears surrounding what could happen with Salah and Van Dijk in the summer.

Ornstein said when asked about Salah and Van Dijk’s contract situations at Liverpool: “In better news for Liverpool fans, Virgil van Dijk has spoken in the last 24 hours and said that there’s been progress in talks over a new contract or him.
“It’s been my understanding throughout that Liverpool are confident and optimistic of renewing Van Dijk, and now it’s a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ he’ll put pen to paper, barring any last-minute hitches, the talks have been positive and cordial.
“It’s the same situation with Mohamed Salah, Liverpool have been confident throughout that they will retain his services, and like with Van Dijk, it’s a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ that’s going to happen, that will be good news for them.”
Who should Liverpool’s next contract focus be after Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk?
Salah and Van Dijk’s future has dominated the rumour mill for the last 12 months, with Liverpool now finally close to securing the duo to new deals which should put an end to any speculation about where they will end up in the summer.
Yet football is a game that stops or nobody, and Liverpool know they will now need to move onto the next slate of players who need new contracts, with some big work needing to be done behind the scenes heading into next season.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract with Liverpool is in the process of being renewed, whilst the Reds also want to award Conor Bradley with a new deal ahead of the Northern Ireland international replacing Alexander-Arnold as right-back next season.
