Jamie Carragher is an iconic football figure on Merseyside.

The former defender grew up an Everton fan before switching allegiances to Liverpool once he started to play for the red half of the city.

This gives the Sky Sports pundit a broader understanding of the Merseyside derby as he knows how it feels from the point of view of both sides. Carragher would even make the Liverpool dressing room aware of its importance before the games, Peter Crouch previously admitted.

The Reds legend featured in many contests for Liverpool against Everton, but before his final one at Anfield, the centre-back had a dream of how he wanted it to go.

Jamie Carragher’s final Merseyside derby dream

Carragher faced Everton an incredible 30 times throughout his career with the Reds legend ending it with a record of 16 wins, nine draws and five defeats.

The last time the centre-back faced the Toffees came in May 2013 at Anfield and ahead of the game, the defender told Sky Sports the dream ending he had in mind for his last Merseyside derby.

“Score the winner there at the Kop. That would be perfect, wouldn’t it?” Carragher said when asked how he wanted his last game against Everton to go.

“Probably asking a bit much there. To win, listen, I don’t care how we win as long as we win. That would be a perfect way to finish.”

Not only did Carragher not score, but Liverpool also failed to get the three points as the former defender’s final Merseyside derby would be a dull 0-0 affair with only five shots on target.

Jamie Carragher’s favourite ever Anfield memory

Carragher had an incredible career at Liverpool being involved in an incredible FA Cup final in 2006, which Steven Gerrard labelled one of his hardest matches, to that famous night in Istanbul where the Merseyside club claimed their fifth European Cup against AC Milan.

There were some phenomenal nights along the way to Turkey, with Liverpool’s win over Chelsea at Anfield being one of them.

Ahead of his final Merseyside derby in 2013, Carragher told Sky Sports that the semi-final contest against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea team was his favourite memory at Anfield.

“I’d say, I was defending that goal at the Kop end against Chelsea in the semi-final in 2005,” Carragher said when asked about his favourite memory at Anfield.

“Those six minutes went up. They were a great team, Mourinho’s Chelsea. The atmosphere in the stadium, they dragged us across the line the supporters that night.”

There would not have been many nights more special than this in Carragher’s career as Liverpool fans to this day still talk about the atmosphere at Anfield that night in 2005.
