Liverpool enter the summer transfer market in search of a new number nine.

The striker role has proven to be an area of weakness in Arne Slot’s team in recent weeks as Diogo Jota struggled against both Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle over the last week.

There is doubt over the Portuguese star’s future at Anfield, while Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Should both depart Merseyside, Slot will need a replacement, and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is Liverpool’s top target ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Swedish striker is expected to cost a lot of money, therefore, the Premier League leaders will have alternative targets.

Liverpool make contact with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap

Liam Delap is a name that has caught the attention of many clubs in the Premier League as the English striker has proven he is more than capable of playing in England’s top flight.

With Ipswich on the verge of relegation to the Championship, the 22-year-old is very likely to switch teams over the summer and several clubs have already started to make their move.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are one of them, as the Reds are believed to have made contact with Delap to establish his plans for the future.

The Ipswich star ticks all the boxes for Liverpool and the 22-year-old provides them with a cheaper alternative to Isak, should the Merseyside club fail to bring the Newcastle man to Anfield.

Chelsea are also interested in the 22-year-old, as the Blues are one of many Premier League clubs in the market for a new striker.

All this interest in Delap will not surprise Jamie Carragher as the Sky Sports pundit is a fan of the Ipswich Town striker.

Liam Delap labelled a ‘handful’ by Jamie Carragher

Delap’s first season in the Premier League has seen the forward score 10 goals across the 28 matches he has played in for Ipswich.

As part of a better team, the 22-year-old has the potential to double that and having watched the Englishman closely this season, Carragher has stated that he is a player he wouldn’t want to play against.

“He (Delap) is a handful. He is one of them ones who you think ‘I wouldn’t want to play against him every week’,” Carragher told Sky Sports about the Ipswich Town star. “Whether he’ll have in the end, maybe the finesse or class that you need to be England’s striker, we’ll see. But he certainly looks a rough diamond.”

Delap has proven to be a potential future Premier League star this season but the 22-year-old’s style does not suit the way Slot has played at Liverpool this season.

Matheus Cunha is a player more suited to Liverpool, while Brighton’s Joao Pedro would also be a good fit for Slot’s team.

It remains to be seen what type of striker the Reds sign this summer as it seems the Premier League giants are looking at many options.
