Liverpool’s season takes a pause over the coming weeks as the final international break of the campaign begins.
It remains to be seen exactly what shape the Reds are in heading into the break. They’ll either be back-to-back Carabao Cup winners or heartbroken beaten finalists.
Either way, there is likely to be big celebrations once the March internationals are over, with Liverpool on the home straight to lifting the Premier League title.
In the meantime, Arne Slot will be hoping that the Liverpool squad do not sustain any more injuries while away with their respective countries.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is definitely injured and will miss Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. In his place is likely to come Jarell Quansah, who’s call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s first ever England squad on Friday may have also come at Alexander-Arnold’s expense.
But although his selection will be terrific news for Quansah after a somewhat difficult season, not everyone was happy with Tuchel’s decision.

Fans split over Jarell Quansah call-up
Quansah has been far from a regular in the starting line-up for Liverpool this season. This may change over the coming weeks, but for now the 22-year-old has started just two Premier League matches in 2024/25.
As a result, some fans on social media site X were left frustrated by a seeming bias towards bigger clubs from Tuchel.
“Quansah getting called up when he’s started about 2 games all season is criminal,” they say. “Just shows its all about who you play for & not how you play. Absolutely no reward for playing your best football unless you play for a top 6.”
“Quansah decision absolutely baffles me,” said another. “Never plays, and when he has this season he’s not been good. Proper ‘big club’ bias there.”
Others pointed out that there were players such as Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Djed Spence of Tottenham who deserved to be picked ahead of Quansah.
“Quansah over Branthwaite is hugely bizarre,” remarked one fan. “Quansah over Spence is absolutely ridiculous,” added another.
“Djed Spence has been absolutely robbed of an England call up,” another fan pointed out. “Burn Walker and Quansah all being picked ahead of him.”
“Quansah being in the England squad is outright laughable,” one more supporter fumed, with another accusing Tuchel of ‘really scraping the barrel’ with the Liverpool man’s inclusion.
Some support for Quansah call-up
Although fans of other clubs – mainly Tottenham and Everton it has to be said – were disappointed to see Quansah called up, Liverpool supporters were happy for the youngster.
“So happy to see Quansah back in the England squad,” said one. “He has had a tough season but his last couple of appearances have been sneakily quality.”
“Jarell Quansah deservingly called up to the England Squad,” commented another. “3rd best Right Back in the league,” they added, quite possibly tongue firmly in cheek.
“Pleased for Quansah,” yet another remarked. “A better player than the stick he’s got and probably having a better season than the talk around him too.”
Whatever the noise surrounding his inclusion, a second senior call-up will hopefully lead to a full international debut for Jarell and yet more vital experience for him.
