Liverpool consider transfer approach for £88m attacker likened to Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool have arguably the best array of attackers in world football, yet changes could be coming to the group this summer.

FC Barcelona have earmarked Luis Diaz as their main target for the transfer window, whilst Darwin Nunez looks set to leave Liverpool at the end of this season having once again failed to live up to expectations under Arne Slot.

With Mohamed Salah also yet to sign a new Liverpool contract, changes are coming for the Reds’ forward ranks, which this summer could see a massive overhaul despite how well-rounded Slot’s options are this campaign.

Indeed, the changing of the guard is going to be a difficult one for Liverpool fans to watch, yet the Anfield side are now seemingly considering a move for one of the most exciting attackers in all of Europe.

Liverpool considering approach for AC Milan superstar Rafael Leao

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are weighing up a move for AC Milan attacker and Portuguese international Rafael Leao, who the Italian giants are willing to sell this summer for €100m (£88m).

Likened to Cristiano Ronaldo by former Sporting Lisbon coach Tiago Fernandes via FotMob, Leao has been one of the best forwards in Europe for the past few seasons, though the winger’s form has taken a hit somewhat this year.

As per the report, Leao could be viewed by Liverpool as a potential replacement for Diaz should the attacker make the move to Barcelona, a transfer that already looks difficult given the La Liga side’s crippling financial problems.

Yet at 25-years-old and a player who has shown just how world-class he can be when in the right form, Leao could be an interesting option if an opportunity were to arise for Liverpool to make a move this summer, even if it meant paying a club-record fee.

Would Rafael Leao be a good fit for Liverpool and Arne Slot?

Rafael Leao’s reputation alone could be enough to secure the winger a big move this summer despite only managing ten goals in all competitions for Milan, who this season has failed to hit the heights many expected from the Portuguese forward.

Yet the attacker’s form could be down to his time at Milan coming to an end, and a change of scenery at a club like Liverpool could be what helps Leao unlock his potential, especially playing under a manger like Slot.

The Dutch manager has helped Diaz and Cody Gakpo reach new heights at Liverpool, and if a player as talented as Leao was to make the move to Anfield, the former LOSC Lille star could become a dangerous weapon in the front-line for the Reds.
