Liverpool face Newcastle United later this week in the League Cup final, with Arne Slot set for his first shot at silverware with the Reds.

Having won the competition last season, Liverpool will be pumped up to take on Eddie Howe’s side at Wembley Stadium in what will be an enthralling contest for the neutral, even with Newcastle now missing Anthony Gordon due to suspension.

Indeed, the League Cup final could give Liverpool the boost they need to see off Arsenal in the Premier League title race as well as book their spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, with March set to be the biggest month of the season so far for the Reds.

And Howe has now shared if star striker Alexander Isak will be fit enough for Newcastle having picked up an injury scare today against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Alexander Isak brought off as a precaution for Newcastle ahead of Liverpool final

Speaking to the press, Howe revealed that the Swedish International was brought off for Newcastle in their FA Cup loss against the Seagulls as a precaution, with Isak feeling some tightness in his body, forcing the striker off.

With Isak linked with a move to Liverpool, the attacker missing out on the League Cup final would be a big boost for the Reds given just how good the striker has been this season for Newcastle, yet the forward could be fit enough to feature.

Howe said when asked about Isak’s fitness after being brought off for Newcastle: “Isak had some tightness in his body, but not an injury. The longer it went on, the greater the risk, so he was taken off before any problems.

“We need the week to dust ourselves down and regroup, as we have been tested. We had a small squad, we couldn’t get Sven [Botman] fit and we can’t afford to lose anyone else.”

What injury problems do Liverpool currently have?

Liverpool have a mostly fit squad heading into what is set to be a massive few weeks for the Reds, with the Anfield side taking on PSG in the Champions League round of 16 before facing Newcastle in the League Cup final.

Yet when it comes to injuries, Joe Gomez is the only senior Liverpool player currently out on the treatment table, with Conor Bradley also unavailable, having dealt with a thigh problem all year for the Reds.

Indeed, Liverpool will hope to have Gomez and Bradley back at some point this March, and having the pair return to complete the squad will be huge heading into the League Cup final against Newcastle, where the Anfield side will fancy their chances.
