Liverpool fans are having to rewind to May 2024 this week as a new Amazon Prime documentary airs.
Many will have tried to put the painful ending to the 2023/24 season behind them and focus on what has been a terrific campaign under Arne Slot.
But while Amazon’s four-part series has been re-opening old wounds, it has still been nice to see plenty of Jurgen Klopp content doing the rounds.
Klopp’s final dressing room message to the Liverpool players was released as part of the footage, with the German underlining just how loved he was at Anfield.
Although Jurgen’s farewell deservedly took centre-stage last May, the bottom line was that Liverpool had fallen drastically short in the final months of what could have been a title-winning campaign.
One man who was certainly not having that was Mohamed Salah. And as Salah leads Liverpool to what looks like being a second Premier League title, a bold promise he made the fans immediately after Klopp’s exit has resurfaced.
Mohamed Salah makes Liverpool promise
Salah has been ridiculously good this season. That isn’t a surprise for a player who has led the charge ever since his arrival in 2017. But even by his own lofty standards, 24/25 has been something else.
In fairness, Salah was equally as impressive at points of 23/24. Had he never been injured at AFCON in January, maybe Liverpool would have been able to sustain their title charge.
Instead, Mo was not quite himself for the last two months or so of Klopp’s reign. He scored just six times in his final 16 appearances.
And having seen the team faile to live up to their hopes for the season, Salah took to X on May 20th 2024 – one day after Jurgen had said goodbye – to deliver a promise for the new year.

“We know that trophies are what count and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season,” wrote the Egyptian.
“Our fans deserve it and we will fight like hell.”

Salah set to deliver on his promise
It should be said that Liverpool have not won trophies just yet. With more than two months left in the season it would be foolish to suggest they have.
But after Wednesday’s victory over Newcastle, it doesn’t look as though anyone will catch the Reds in the Premier League. They are surely on their way.
And if they do get over the line as expected, then no one can claim to have contributed as much as Salah.
With a remarkable 30 goals and 22 assists in just 39 games across all competitions, the 32-year-old has been a man on a mission.
It may still turn out to be Salah’s last season at Liverpool, but if that is the case, what a way to go out.
He promised to ‘fight like hell’ and one of – perhaps the – greatest player in this club’s history has done exactly that, whatever happens.
