Liverpool’s title hopes suffered a small blip on Wednesday evening as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa.
A win would have taken the Reds ten points clear of second-placed Arsenal, they however could only manage point on the night.
In what was ultimately a game that slipped away from them, Liverpool had numerous chances to kill the tie off, an example being Darwin Nunez’s open goal miss.
The Uruguayan wasn’t the only one to slip up on the night though, with Diogo Jota also missing a huge chance in the first-half.
Having watched both Nunez and Jota fail to provide the goods, Liverpool fans have all been left saying the same thing.

Liverpool fans call for striker signing after watching Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez vs Aston Villa
Arne Slot was left in disbelief at Nunez’s miss and Reds supporters have echoed their manager’s feelings online.
Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) one fan said:
“Nunez and Jota cost us their missing sitters.”
A third fan added: “Losing points here because we don’t have any other attackers to rely on other than Salah. Both Jota and Nunez wasteful.”
Supporters have also claimed that it is now time to sign a new forward after watching Jota and Nunez’s disappointing display’s versus Villa.
“Mad that Nunez probably scores the Jota chance 1st half, and Jota scores that Nunez chance the 2nd. We need a striker,” another fan added.
Liverpool’s wastefulness cost them against Aston Villa
Having racked up an xG of 2.51 compared to Aston Villa’s 0.67, Liverpool will be left kicking themselves after leaving Villa Park with only a point.
Their frustrations will likely lie at the door of Jota and Nunez, with the pair contributing to 1.5 of Liverpool’s xG on the night.
Both forwards were extremely wasteful, to say the least, as shown by their damming 0% shot accuracy on the night.
| Liverpool stats vs Aston Villa | Diogo Jota | Darwin Nunez |
| xG | 0.75 | 0.75 |
| Shots | 6 | 1 |
| Shots accuracy | 0% | 0% |
| Big chances missed | 1 | 1 |
Despite still being eight points clear that the top, that lead on Arsenal could start to evaporate if the Reds continue to squander opportunities like that.
