Arne Slot will be keen for his side to move on from their FA Cup exit, with a Merseyside derby soon on the horizon.

Liverpool currently have a six-point cushion at the top of the Premier League and can extend that lead to nine points with a win against Everton on Wednesday evening.

The Toffees however will present the Reds with a stern test, having enjoyed a good run form following the return of David Moyes.

Despite not experiencing a Merseyside derby before, it seems like Slot has been doing his homework and has revealed where the Liverpool squad went wrong last time out against Everton.

Arne Slot highlights where Liverpool went wrong in last Merseyside derby

Having endured fierce rivalries with the likes of Sparta Rotterdam, during his time as Feyenoord boss, Slot will know what it takes to come out on top in derby.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Everton clash, the Dutchman pinpointed what his side must be ready for, claiming they need to learn lessons from their last game at Goodison Park – in which they lost 2-0.

“Cool heads but not cool legs. Every time you play against a team that wants to fight with you, this one even more, you have to be ready for that. Don’t go over the line but be cool enough to play a good and firm tackle. That’s where it starts with.

“You have to be just as intense in the tackles. In last season’s game there were 10 free-kicks to Everton in the opening 10 minutes.”

Slot is right to highlight Everton set piece danger

Having mentioned free-kicks in his press conference, Everton’s set-pieces are clearly something that the Liverpool boss is taking into consideration ahead of the derby.

Liverpool were dominated from set pieces during the last Merseyside clash, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin heading home the second from a corner.

Everton have continued their impressive set-piece record this season, scoring double the amount of set-piece goals than Liverpool so far this campaign.

Everton were a huge set-piece threat under Sean Dyche, but Moyes will no doubt look to exploit those same weaknesses this time around.
