Robbie Fowler reacts to Liverpool’s decision not to sign anyone in the January transfer market

Liverpool ended the January transfer window with no new signings, a perhaps predictable outcome given the strength of the club at this moment in time.

Arne Slot has evolved Liverpool’s squad into arguably the best in Europe with the Reds sitting top of the Premier League standings and finishing first in the revamped UEFA Champions League league phase with seven wins from eight games.

With Thomas Frank lauding Liverpool as the best team in the world, Slot has been a revelation for the Anfield side this season having brought new leases of life to a number of players, with Ryan Gravenberch recently compared to Steven Gerrard after Saturday’s win against AFC Bournemouth.

Indeed, some Liverpool fans would have liked an addition or two in the January transfer window, yet club legend Robbie Fowler’s reaction to the lack of spending has highlighted how right the Reds were to not splash the cash this winter.

Robbie Fowler fine with no Liverpool signings in January

Speaking on the Line Up, the former Anfield hero noted how good Liverpool have been this season without an influx of new signings from last summer, with Fowler ‘not overly disappointed’ with the lack of business in the January market.

That’s not to say the Reds didn’t try to make a signing or two, though, with Liverpool weighing up a move for Rayan Cherki before Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor ruled out the prospect of the French youngster leaving in January.

And for Fowler, the pundit is seemingly content with Liverpool not making any signings this winter, especially with the club playing as well as they have been this season under Slot in all competitions.

Fowler said when asked about the lack of signings this January: “Speaking as a Liverpool fan, they’re unbelievable, the play is unbelievable, it’s in such a good place, so I’m not overly disappointed if that makes sense.”

Tony Bellew agrees with Liverpool not signing anybody

Liverpool’s lack of spending has caught some fans and pundits by surprise, yet for Everton fan and former boxer Tony Bellew, the Reds were in a fortunate position where they did not need to spend to improve the squad.

Bewllew said when asked about Liverpool’s business in January: “They are probably the most efficient run club in the world, that’s how far I would go to say. They will not spend, but they don’t need to spend it.”

With all signs pointing towards Liverpool spending big in the summer, the decision to not open the wallet in January could end up being the right call from the Reds, who heading into the off-season could make some big moves.
