With the January transfer window done and dusted, Liverpool can get back to the more important matters on the pitch.
The Reds have another big game coming up this midweek as they attempt to overturn a first-leg defeat in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
Despite their late loss against Spurs back in January, Liverpool head into Thursday’s game at Anfield in good spirits.
Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth had been billed as a big potential stumbling block for Arne Slot and his team.
However, the Reds dealt with Andoni Iraola’s in-form side just as they have with pretty much every other away game in the Premier League this season: efficiently and with three points collected. Hurdle cleared.
According to Jamie Carragher, though, Slot did actually ask his team to do something a little bit different at the Vitality Stadium.

Jamie Carragher dissects Arne Slot tactics
Liverpool had every reason to be worried that Bournemouth would finally be the team to beat them on the road.
The Reds haven’t lost a Premier League away game since April 2024, but with the Cherries on a rampant run, they were a good bet to stop them.
Slot clearly knew he had to do something new to combat Iraola’s free-flowing team. And according to Carragher, this led to a ‘really interesting’ little tweak from the Liverpool head coach.
“What was really interesting from Liverpool, you see Van Dijk on the ball, going to play this ball into Szoboszlai between the lines here,” the pundit told Sky Sports, highlighting a passage of play in the build-up to Liverpool’s first-half penalty.

“33 passes between the lines in that game for Liverpool, the most they’ve had this season.
“That was a tactic, that was a ploy, because they know Bournemouth like to press high, they’ve got two number 10’s in these positions. Can they find them?”
Carragher wants more from Liverpool No.10s
The two ‘No.10’s Carragher is referring to for Liverpool against Bournemouth are Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai.
With Diaz operating in a kind of ‘false nine’ role and Szoboszlai the most advanced midfielder, they were the two dropping into the space between the Cherries’ midfield and defence.
| Appearances | Goals | Assists | |
| Dominik Szoboszlai | 21 | 3 | 2 |
| Luis Diaz | 22 | 8 | 2 |
According to Carragher, however, both players can still be more effective in contributing in the final third.
“I still think there could be more from the two players I’ve just highlighted in this: Szoboszlai and Diaz” said the Liverpool legend.
“When you look at Szoboszlai he’s got five goals and assists. You need more. I need more from that position. So, that’s something that actually excites me in terms of going forward under Arne Slot.”
