Liverpool have stayed true to form and engaged in a quiet January transfer window.
In reality, ‘quiet’ does not perhaps do justice to just how deathly silent things have been for the Reds this winter market.
With the team sitting top of the Premier League table and looking good for a push on all fronts, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes seem happy to wait before bolstering the Liverpool squad.
Given the position Liverpool find themselves in, you can certainly understand them taking that stance. However, there are also areas of the team which are in clear need of improvement in the transfer market.
Possibly the most glaring of these has been at left-back, where Andy Robertson has faced scrutiny for a perceived drop-off in form.
And ahead of Monday’s January transfer deadline, journalist David Lynch made a prediction about what Liverpool could do on the left side of their defence.

Liverpool assessing options at left-back
As Liverpool search for the optimal successor to Robertson, Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has emerged as something of fan favourite in the running.
Kerkez was given the chance to impress at close quarters on Saturday as the Reds and the Cherries faced off.
Slot was asked about Kerkez after the game, but understandably refused to be drawn on whether the Hungarian would be a summer target for Liverpool.
As a journalist, Lynch can be a little less guarded about the Reds plans, but speaking to Anfield Index on transfer deadline day, the reporter suggested that there are still options other than Kerkez available to Liverpool.
“I know Kerkez in particular is a player that they like but I still think the left-back market, if that price gets a little bit high they’ll still feel they can find someone else for less who can do that job,” he said.
“So, I wouldn’t nail my colours to the mast and say that he’s 100 per cent the left-back Liverpool will go for. We’ll just have to see how that one plays out.”
Who are Liverpool’s other options?
Given that Kerkez has already suggested he will not be joining Liverpool this summer, it is definitely worth pondering who Slot could sign instead.
Rayan Ait Nouri has often been linked and with one year left on his Wolves contract come the summer, the 23-year-old would certainly be cheaper than Kerkez.
Along with Kerkez and Ait Nouri, the Premier League’s outstanding left-back of recent times has been Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.
But although he has been tremendous for Fulham this year, it has been reported that Liverpool are not interested in signing Robinson.
What is clear is that Liverpool will need to act in the summer. So, whether it is one of these options or not, they’re going to have to pull a name from somewhere.
