Steve McManaman says it wasn’t only Mo Salah who was ‘excellent’ for Liverpool against Bournemouth

Liverpool beat Bournemouth on Saturday to record what feels like a huge win in the Premier League title race.

With Arsenal up against Manchester City on Sunday, the Reds knew they could put real pressure on both the Gunners and City with a win.

Bournemouth have been terrific recently, though, and went into the game as one of the form teams in the Premier League.

However, Liverpool rode the wave at the Vitality Stadium and came away with an impressive win thanks to a double from Mohamed Salah.

Salah has taken the plaudits after the game having been the difference-maker in a tight match.

But according to former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman, Alisson Becker was just as important to the Reds getting three points.

Alisson Becker hailed for ‘excellent’ display

Alisson has not been at his best since returning from injury in December.

There has been some slight concern over the Brazilian, who is normally such a dependable figure in the Liverpool goal.

Thankfully, Saturday was a return to that, with Alisson making two brilliant saves to deny Antoine Semenyo and then prevent a Ryan Gravenberch own goal.

And speaking to premierleague.com, McManaman was quick to praise the 32-year-old for the part he played in massive three points for Liverpool.

“It was always going to be a difficult game,” said the pundit. “Bournemouth have got a system that causes teams problems.

“The most important thing is to get the three points. 2-0, clean sheet, goalkeeper was excellent, substitutions had an impact. All in all, a really good day.”

Mohamed Salah praises Alisson show

It wasn’t only McManaman who wanted to highlighted Alisson after the game.

Also in quotes from premierleague.com, Salah also praised the goalkeeper for a key performance.

“He knows how important he is for us; we’ve been together for years. He works very hard, I’m happy for him,” the Egyptian said.

Between them, the former Roma pair stood up big to show why they should be regarded as two of the very best players in Liverpool history.

Even after all they’ve done for the club, neither are finished yet. Not by a long shot.
