Liverpool turned up the heat on their Premier League title rivals with an excellent 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Reds knew they’d be up against it in parts at the Vitality Stadium, with the Cherries in the midst of a 12-game unbeaten run.
However, after navigating through a difficult opening half hour in which Antoine Semenyo rattled the post, Liverpool hit the front through a Mohamed Salah penalty.
It was a soft decision, but with Cody Gakpo just clipped by Lewis Cook, Salah blasted home a terrific penalty.
The game was far from done, though, and Liverpool came out for the second-half sluggishly. Justin Kluivert missed an open net before Salah curled home a beautiful second to put the game to bed.
It was sumptuous finish from Mo, but according to former Red Don Hutchison, it owed a lot to Curtis Jones, too.

Don Hutchison hails Curtis Jones assist
Liverpool’s second goal came at such a crucial time against Bournemouth.
With the Cherries having just missed a huge chance to level the game, Salah sent them a dagger.
It was a goal typical of the Egyptian as he killed the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area before curling an inch-perfect effort beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Speaking on premierleague.com, Hutchison called the finish ‘devastating.’ But he was also keen to praise the part Jones played with an expertly weighted pass.
“This is a devastating Mo Salah finish,” says the former Liverpool midfielder.
“Bournemouth have good numbers back, Curtis Jones does brilliantly to find Salah and it’s a ruthless finish into the far corner and he bends it around Milos Kerkez. Pure relief for Arne Slot.”
Salah hailed for ‘effortless’ finish
It wasn’t only Hutchison who was quick to praise Salah for his second goal at the Vitality Stadium.
BBC Sport pundit Ashley Williams was also impressed, hailing the 32-year-old for the ‘effortless’ nature of the goal.
“The defending is not that bad and Salah has put the ball in the only place that the defenders can’t block it and the keeper can’t save it,” raves Williams.
“It is just effortless for him.”
Two more goals for Mo, but it’s also a third Premier League assist of the season for Jones, who set up only one goal in each of the previous three seasons. Great to see improvement in that department.
