Liverpool look unlikely to make the most of the January transfer window as the deadline draws ever closer.
The Reds had not been expected to dip into the winter market and with just six days left in which to do business, it would be a surprise to see any action at Anfield.
Nevertheless, fast forward to the summer, and Liverpool will need for that to change.
The Reds have done remarkably well so far this season, but Arne Slot is sure to want to put his own mark on the Liverpool squad.
Last year, Slot attempted to do that by adding a new, deep-lying midfielder in Martin Zubimendi. But with Zubimendi expected to move elsewhere, new targets have to assessed.
And as they look ahead to a busy off-season, Liverpool may have just been given a boost in their pursuit of a Zubimendi alternative.

Angelo Stiller adds release clause into new contract
Given the form of Ryan Gravenberch, there is an argument that Liverpool no longer need a player of Zubimendi’s ilk to come in and be a starter.
However, due to the over-reliance Liverpool have come to have on Gravenberch, most fans would agree that a new rotational option who Slot trusts should be brought in.
With that remit in mind, there have been claims that Liverpool are preparing a summer move for Angelo Stiller of Stuttgart.
Stiller could be an ideal midfielder for Slot and as it turns out, the 23-year-old has just signed a new contract at Stuttgart.

Crucially, though, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Stiller’s new deal contains a release clause.
“Angelo Stiller has extended his contract with VfB until 2028!” Plettenberg writes on X. “Release clause included.”
How much is Stiller’s release clause?
Liverpool have shown a preference for signing players with set release clause’s in their contracts in the recent past.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are the best examples of the Reds taking advantage of this to bring in two exceptional players for relatively affordable prices. Stiller could follow suit.
| Apperances | Assists | Pass Accuracy | Chances Created | Dribble Success | |
| Angelo Stiller Bundesliga 24/25 | 19 | 4 | 89.3% | 36 | 72.7% |
So far, there is no indication as to how much they would have to pay to sign the Germany international from Stuttgart.
TeamTALK previously suggested £34m as the Bundesliga side’s asking price, though, and given that Stuttgart’s record sale is currently the £30m procured from the sale of Benjamin Pavard to Bayern Munich, that would seem like a reasonable expectation.
Should the fee be anything in that kind of ballpark, this should be good news for Liverpool. Stiller is an ‘incredible’ player and that could be a bargain. But other clubs will no doubt be interested.
