Four Liverpool players could still end up leaving before the January transfer deadline

With just days left in which to do business, Liverpool’s January transfer window has been an underwhelming affair.

The Reds had not exactly expected to be busy during the winter market, but fans had quietly been hoping for a surprise signing out of somewhere.

Although that could of course potentially still happen, all the signs indicate that Liverpool will go into the season without any further additions.

In the meantime, perhaps the best news is that the Liverpool squad has not been depleted either.

Despite sagas involving Trent Alexander-Arnold, Federico Chiesa and even Darwin Nunez, the Reds look set to keep all of that linked-away trio.

However, that does not mean that exits will not happen at Anfield before Monday’s deadline passes. According to a report from The Athletic on Tuesday, up to four players could still leave on-loan.

Four players could leave Liverpool on-loan

January exits are always a precarious thing to manage. A player can be on the fringes of the team and look surplus to requirements before injuries suddenly pull him back in.

As a result, Liverpool have been wise to take their time before sending any of their youngsters out for the second half of the season.

Nevertheless, The Athletic claim that this could still happen, with at least two players nailed on to be leaving.

One of them is Kaide Gordon, who was recalled from a disappointing loan spell with Norwich City earlier this month. Gordon was supposed to stay at Carrow Road for the full season but was brought back having fallen out of favour.

The 19-year-old is reportedly set to go out on another loan, while another who was recalled, Luke Chambers, is also ‘expected to depart’ after recovering from a long-term injury.

There is seemingly a little more to ponder about both Jayden Danns and James McConnell, whom Liverpool are said to be waiting to make a final decision on amid interest from the Championship.

What’s going on with Ben Doak?

As well as giving an insight into the futures of four promising Liverpool youngsters, The Athletic also provide and update on a fifth: Ben Doak.

Doak has been brilliant at Middlesbrough, leading to interest – and January bids – from several Premier League clubs.

Given how well he has been doing, there were also suggestions that Liverpool may bring Doak back to Anfield for the second half of the campaign.

However, the deadline for Liverpool to cut the 19-year-old’s loan short has reportedly now ended.

The Reds are said to be ‘delighted’ with Doak’s progression at Boro and as a result will allow him to stay with the Championship team for the rest of the season.
