Thomas Frank still raving about two Liverpool players around Brentford’s training ground

Liverpool earned heaps of praise following their last-gasp win over Brentford last weekend.

The Gtech Community Stadium is not an easy place to go, with the Bees having lost only one Premier League home game all season before facing Arne Slot’s team.

It had looked as though Brentford would keep that record going, before Darwin Nunez stole the game for Liverpool at the death.

Late though it came, the Reds were good value for their win. Brentford manager Thomas Frank hailed Liverpool after the game, claiming Slot’s side were ‘a level above’ both Arsenal and Man City.

Ahead of their match on Saturday, Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has echoed Frank’s praise of Liverpool.

And although it is now fading into the past, it turns out that the Brentford manager is still raving about Liverpool at training in West London.

Thomas Frank still raving about Liverpool centre-backs

While Liverpool deserved their win at Brentford last week, things could easily have swung the other way, too.

The Reds restricted Frank’s team well, though, with Slot revealing special instructions for Bryan Mbeumo after the game.

Nevertheless, there were still some clear openings during the 90 minutes. But between them, Liverpool centre-back duo Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate dealt with everything superbly.

Frank clearly thinks so, too. With Sky Sports following the Dane for ‘a day in the life’ cameras captured a meeting between the manager and one of his analysts at the Brentford training ground.

“Did you get the number of the offensive situations?” Frank asks, with clips of the Liverpool match being shown on the monitors.

“I had like, 13, 14,” replies the analyst.

“13, 14 dangerous attacks where there’s maybe not an outcome, because their centre-backs on the day, wow, what a level!” smiled the coach.

Konate and Van Dijk ready to revamp partnership

Konate and Van Dijk have been a huge part of the reason Liverpool are clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The defenders put together a long run of games at the start of the season which saw Liverpool barely concede a goal.

Since Konate returned from injury in December, the Frenchman has not been able to reach that same level.

But Brentford was a comeback to the Konate we’d seen prior to his injury against Real Madrid. After getting a rest in midweek against Lille, Ibou is ready to go against Ipswich on Saturday.

With Van Dijk just as good as ever and Konate an immense presence alongside him, it’s no wonder Frank has been impressed.
