Liverpool play Ipswich Town on Saturday as the Tractor Boys visit Anfield for the first time since 2002.
Ipswich do not have happy memories of the red half of Merseyside, although they did earn a creditable 1-1 League Cup draw on their last trip, before losing on penalties.
Liverpool’s goal scorer that day was one El Hadji Diouf, and, interestingly, the Reds are rumoured to be targeting a player seemingly named after the Senegalese flop; Slavia Prague left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Diouf has been linked with Liverpool as they try to solve their ongoing left-back problem.
Andy Robertson has been struggling this season and looks ready to be replaced as a guaranteed starter for the Reds. A summer signing at left-back is starting to feel inevitable.
But as Liverpool consider Diouf, Milos Kerkez and others such as Rayan Ait Nouri, Ipswich’s Anfield visit should allow them to run the rule over Leif Davis as a genuine contender to be signed.

Leif Davis announcing himself as potential Liverpool target
Davis has quietly been one of the best full-backs in the Premier League this season.
After being part of Ipswich’s promotion-winning sides from League One and then the Championship, the 25-year-old has made the step up with relative ease.
Davis was given a tough introduction to top division football as Mohamed Salah tested him on the opening day of the campaign, but from then on, the former Leeds youngster has really caught the eye.
And as per liverpoolfc.com, some of his statistics heading into Saturday’s game are mightily impressive.

They report that Davis is the only player to created 20 or more chances from both open play and set-pieces throughout the whole of the Premier League this season.
On top of that, the Ipswich man supposedly trails only Trent Alexander-Arnold in terms of overall chance creation this term, with Trent just edging the scores 42 to 41. Seriously good.
Davis showing Andy Robertson parrallels
Although some fans would no doubt prefer Liverpool go for a big shiny signing such as Alphonso Davies or Kerkez, Davis would fit much more into the mould the Reds chose when they signed Robertson.
The Scotland captain was a little younger when he joined. Robertson was 23 whereas Davis turned 25 in December.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Leeds | 14 | 0 | 1 |
| Bournemouth | 15 | 0 | 1 |
| Leeds | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Ipswich | 112 | 6 | 34 |
However, both spent time in the lower divisions, with Robbo beginning his career in the Scottish third tier and playing a season for Hull in the Championship.
Davis has cut his teeth in the second and third divisions already before making the steady progression to being a Premier League left-back.
It would be a big ask for Davis to make the step up to being a starter for Liverpool immediately, but under Robertson’s tutelage for a year, who’s to say it couldn’t happen? Anfield will get a first, proper look on Saturday and if Davis can do well, perhaps this unlikely transfer could gather some momentum.
