Ibrahima Konate has quickly become an indispensable asset for Liverpool under Arne Slot.
The French international has taken his game to another level for club and country this season and has been Virgil van Dijk’s preferred partner at the heart of the Reds’ backline.
Konate has been in fine form in recent weeks and put in another incredible showing as Liverpool secured a last-gasp 2-0 win against Brentford.
And now, it appears as if he’s waiting to make a decision on his future after being offered a new contract by Liverpool.
Ibrahima Konate waiting to see what happens with Liverpool trio

While Liverpool have been incredible on the pitch, contract talks involving Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have dominated the headlines over the past few months.
The trio are a few months away from being free agents and the Reds face a race against time to tie them down to new deals.
Ahead of the game against Lille in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield, Konate confirmed that he has indeed been offered a new contract by Liverpool, suggesting that he is considering his options before putting pen to paper.
“I didn’t know, after I spoke with the club but I think I am really focused on what happens now,” said Konate. “We will see what will happen.”
RTK also confirmed exclusively last year that Konate has been offered a new deal by Liverpool, so he clearly has an offer on that table currently.
And now, a report from The Times states that the French international may be waiting to see what happens with the futures of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah before signing his contract.
David Ornstein confirmed that the Liverpool trio have also been offered new deals, so it remains to be seen how the saga pans out in the coming months.
What next for Konate?
When fit and firing, there aren’t too many central defenders better than Konate in world football, so Liverpool will hope he maintains a clean bill of health between now and the end of the season.
He suffered a knee injury in the 2-0 win against Real Madrid earlier in the season and only returned to action against Manchester United in January.
Konate attended the pre-match press conference alongside Slot yesterday, which is a sign that he’s likely to be named in the starting XI later today.
As for his future, his current deal at the club only expires in the summer of 2026, so Liverpool still have a bit more time to tie him down for the long haul as opposed to what is the case with Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah.
