Liverpool star reveals ‘rough patch’ despite record-breaking moment vs Brentford

Liverpool left it late to secure a massive 2-0 win away to Brentford in the Premier League thanks to Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguay international came off from the bench to score two stoppage-time goals for the Reds as Arne Slot’s side extended their lead in the Premier League standings to six points with Arsenal drawing at home to Aston Villa.

Yet on Liverpool player admitted post-match that he is currently in a ‘rough patch’ of form despite making history.

Nunez admits his form hasn’t been good enough despite Liverpool heroics

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Nunez admitted that his form simply hasn’t been good enough, with the former Benfica striker enduring his worst season yet for the Reds under Slot, who has preferred over options in the no. 9 position.

With Nunez setting a new Premier League record with his brace against Brentford, the 25-year-old needed the performance more than anybody else this weekend, and the striker has said he will try to remain strong heading into the final games of January.

Nunez said when talking about his Liverpool form in recent weeks: “The truth is that I’m going through a rough patch and like I said before, I always stay focused on my job and I’m always going to give everything for Liverpool.

“It’s really important to keep my head up and to always say: ‘OK, I’ve got to work because I need to improve.’ And I stay strong with this mentality and with the support of my family and of course the fans, who are incredible.”

With Nunez rumoured with an exit from Liverpool as transfer interest from Saudi Arabia ramps up, the second-half of this season is do-or-die for the South American marksman, who is now playing to save his Anfield career.

And after a record-breaking away performance coupled with Liverpool players lifting Nunez off his feet after last night’s win against Brentford, the stage is now set for the Uruguay international to enjoy a stunning comeback for the Reds.

Indeed, Nunez has the talent and the quality to become a real asset and star for Liverpool, and the striker knows he needs to start performing in the final four months of this season if he’s to remain in Slot’s squad for next season.
