Liverpool and Brentford prepare to lock horns tomorrow in what promises to be an intriguing game of Premier League football.

Arne Slot’s side are coming on the back of a 1-1 draw against high-flying Nottingham Forest and will look to return to winning ways, having won just three of their last seven Premier League games.

Brentford, on the other hand, are 11th in the table, but they have largely been a good team at home this season, making this yet another tricky away trip for the Reds.

A lot has been said about Darwin Nunez on and off the pitch in recent weeks, and Arne Slot was involved in an interesting exchange with a journalist involving the Liverpool striker in his pre-match press conference.

The Uruguayan wears his heart on his sleeve and is a likable character, but it goes without saying that his end product simply hasn’t been good enough this season.

Nunez has scored just four goals across all competitions under Slot, raising questions over his long-term future at Anfield.

He was suspended for the game against Forest but is set to return to the matchday squad against Brentford, giving him another opportunity to add to his goal tally.

In Slot’s pre-match press conference, a journalist appeared to suggest that Nunez is currently struggling with confidence as he went on to ask the Dutchman what he plans to do to help him overcome his rut.

The Liverpool manager appeared to refute those claims, adding that it’s only natural for strikers to go through spells where it simply doesn’t click in front of goal.

“It’s your perception, not mine that he is struggling for confidence,” said Slot in his pre-match press conference.

“He was involved in goals against Accrington and Fulham and he scored against Southampton. So for me, it’s the life of a striker – sometimes you score, sometimes you don’t and he hasn’t started every week.

“We score every game except for Spurs in the Cup, so that tells me we have goals in our team. Darwin will score as he has done already. I don’t see him struggling as much as you see it.

Nunez’s Liverpool future in doubt

The Uruguayan is in his third season at Liverpool and judging by the grand scheme of things, he has failed to live up to his hype.

Nunez has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League and the Reds may look to offload him at the end of the season if suitable bids arrive.

It goes without saying that the former Benfica striker is playing for his Liverpool future and will need to do something truly special to extend his stay at the club beyond the current campaign.
