Liverpool comfortably dispatched Accrington Stanley 4-0 at Anfield in what turned out to be a fine outing in the third round of the FA Cup.
With a tricky run of games coming up, Arne Slot made wholesale changes to his team as players on the fringes of the squad got rare starts.
Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa got their names on the scoresheet at Anfield, while Rio Ngumoha gave the Reds faithful a glorious glimpse of his outrageous potential on his first start for the club.
Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the second half by Slot, and it was interesting to see who got the captain’s armband after his departure.
Wataru Endo and Diogo Jota captain Liverpool vs Accrington Stanley

Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and there has been a lot of talk about the Englishman, especially after his poor performance against Manchester United in the 2-2 draw.
However, he silenced his critics with a brief cameo vs Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup and was at it again today as he ran the show and scored a fantastic goal in the first half.
After the 26-year-old was substituted with around 30 minutes left on the clock for Conor Bradley, the captain’s armband was passed on to Wataru Endo, who produced a classy display as a central defender.
The Japanese international captains his national team, so he is no stranger to the role. However, when Endo’s race was done, he passed on the armband to Jota, who led the team for the rest of the game.
What next for Liverpool?
Lucy Ward hailed Ngumoha for his fantastic Liverpool debut, which was one of the main stories of the day at Anfield. Chiesa also got his moment late in the game as he scored a fantastic goal from distance to break his Liverpool duck.
All in all, it was the perfect cup outing for the Reds, who will now look ahead to their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest next week.
Slot’s only defeat in the Premier League came against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men earlier this season, so he will look to make amends when the two sides lock horns at the City Ground.
