Arne Slot’s side are already in a strong position to win silverware, but a signing or two could go a long way in ensuring that’s the case at the end of the season.

Over the past 24 hours, a big transfer story involving the Reds has emerged in the mainstream media, with Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia linked with a January move to Anfield.

And now, sources close to Liverpool have shared just how likely the Reds are to snap up the Georgian this month.

The 23-year-old has burst onto the scene over the last couple of years and has become a key player for club and country, having spearheaded Napoli to Serie A glory under Luciano Spalletti and also playing a big role for Georgia at Euro 2024.

With Napoli unable to agree a contract extension with him, they have put him up for sale in the upcoming transfer windows, attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe.

PSG are set to be leading the chase for Kvaratskhelia, with the Ligue 1 giants in active conversations with all parties involved to reach an agreement.

While the Reds’ interest has been confirmed by multiple sources, the Liverpool Echo state that a deal to bring him to Anfield has been dubbed as ‘unlikely’ at this point in time.

What did Slot say about Kvaratskhelia links?

Speculation surrounding Kvaratskhelia’s future have dominated the back pages over the past 24 hours as he continues to attract interest from Liverpool and PSG, among others.

When asked if the Reds are actually interested in making a move for the Georgian, Slot, as always, didn’t give too much away as he appeared to sidestep the question.

“When you said yourself ‘linked with’, I was thinking: ‘Which club is he going to say now?’ But you mean as a club we are linked with Kvaratskhelia,” Slot said in his press conference ahead of the FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley.

“What I make of that is that this is January and I think I said it after the West Ham United game [to journalists], please don’t disappoint me, please come up with all these players and all these clubs that are in the interest of us.

“Or the ones that don’t play a lot for us are going to go somewhere else. That [speculation] is what is happening now.

“And nine out of 10 times or 99 out of 100 times, at the end of the window it’s been clear that almost all of these stories weren’t true. So what can I comment about it? The rumours keep going for it but no comment from my side.”
