Liverpool were unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead against Manchester United as the Reds saw the points shared at Anfield.

The Reds came from behind to secure a vital win in the Premier League title race with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah finding the back of the net after Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring for United in the second-half.

But Amad Diallo managed to secure a big point for United as Liverpool were unable to find another winner against the Red Devils, with Arne Slot throwing on Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott to try and score a third goal.

And Jamie Carragher was critical of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against United, with the pundit making an interesting transfer claim.

Alexander-Arnold told he hopes Real Madrid didn’t watch Liverpool

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, the former Liverpool defender was critical of Alexander-Arnold’s performance against United, with Carragher saying the fullback will be hoping Real Madrid weren’t watching the game.

Madrid have been strongly linked with a move for Alexander-Arnold in recent weeks with the England international expected to make the switch to Los Blancos in the summer, where the fullback will become a free-agent.

With Roy Keane also slamming Alexander-Arnold, though, it was a game to forget for the 26-year-old defender, who did himself no favours by being beaten so easily at the back by a rejuvenated United side at Anfield.

And Carragher was part of the Alexander-Arnold discourse, with the pundit saying: “There’s been a lot of talk coming into this game but Trent Alexander-Arnold better hope Real Madrid aren’t watching.”

Alexander-Arnold did himself no favours in trying to secure Madrid move

Even after such a poor performance, Alexander-Arnold looks set to join Madrid at the end of this season, with the defender showing no sign of penning a new contract with Liverpool despite rumoured attempts behind the scenes.

Yet the fullback’s performance was one that Alexander-Arnold will want to forget quickly, with the England international fully aware that he was at fault for Liverpool conceding twice against a United side in horrid form.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold will want to give it his all for Liverpool between now and the end of the season, yet performances like this will send the wrong message to fans that his mind is already elsewhere in Madrid.
