Liverpool’s 2024 summer transfer window did not go the way fans had hoped it would.

The Reds looked in need of some bolstering in various positions, but instead had to make do with just two new arrivals.

One of those – Giorgi Mamardashvili – will not even arrive at Liverpool until the end of the current season.

In the meantime, the Reds saw several players depart Anfield along with manager Jurgen Klopp.

With Mamardashvili coming in and Vitezslav Jaros returning from loan, one player to call time on his Liverpool career was third choice goalkeeper Adrian.

Despite a slightly difficult start, Adrian became a popular figure over five seasons with the Reds and having re-joined hometown club Real Betis, the 38-year-old has once again shown why that was.

Adrian sends support to Arne Slot’s Liverpool

Although Adrian only played twice during his final three years at Liverpool, the Spaniard was a crucial cog behind the scenes.

A key man at the Liverpool training ground, Adrian’s experience and personality was always welcomed by his teammates.

Since coming back to Betis the veteran ‘keeper has been playing in the Europa Conference League for Manuel Pellegrini.

And on Friday, Adrian celebrated his 38th birthday, leading to a personalised post from Liverpool’s official X account.

“Feliz cumpleanos, Adrian,” wrote the LFC account, alongside a photograph of the goalie kissing the UEFA Super Cup he helped win in 2019.

“Thanks, lads! I support you from Seville, and what a season are you performing…” Adrian replied.

Adrian showing he’s still got it

There were times during Adrian’s Liverpool career where the goalkeeper looked like he was not up to the standard needed at Anfield.

However, the former West Ham shot-stopper deserves praise for turning things around.

Although he was eventually surpassed in the pecking order by Caoimhin Kelleher, Adrian was still a crucial member of the squad which won the Premier League in 2019/20.

With Alisson Becker picking up an injury towards the start of the campaign, Adrian stepped in to make 11 league appearances. Liverpool won them all.

While he is no longer expected to be a starter for his club, it’s nice to see him is stepping in as Betis’ designated European ‘keeper this season. All the best, Adrian and happy birthday!
