Liverpool are able to sign players immediately to their squad after the January transfer window opened.

The Reds did limited business in 2024, with supporters hopeful that 2025 will bring a little bit more movement at Anfield.

One position in which Liverpool could potentially do with a new player or two is in the forward line.

While the Reds’ attack has been especially potent this season, there is still real concern over the short – and long – term future of Mohamed Salah on the Liverpool right.

As a result, Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of left-footed, right-sided forwards who could potentially succeed the Egyptian King.

One of those has been Bryan Mbeumo, who is having a terrific season with Brentford. And with the market now open, Bees boss Thomas Frank has commented on the chances of the Liverpool target leaving.

Thomas Frank dismisses Bryan Mbeumo exit

Mbeumo has been one of the most eye-catching players in the Premier League this term.

The Cameroonian has hit 10 goals and two assists in 18 matches, announcing to the world that he is perhaps ready to take the next step in his career.

Liverpool have been linked with Mbeumo as a result, and a report from GOAL on Tuesday confirms interest from the Reds.

They claim that Liverpool are one of the teams ‘monitoring the situation’ of the 25-year-old, with Arsenal and Newcastle all said to be keen as well.

But the outlet also carry quotes from Frank on the matter, which suggests that Mbeumo will absolutely not be leaving Brentford in January.

“In January? I would say good luck,” says the Danish coach. “We love Bryan. He loves playing here. He has had a fantastic season, so nothing will happen.”

Is Mbeumo a summer option for Liverpool?

Liverpool were never really likely to make a move to bring Mbeumo to Anfield in January.

However, if the cards fall the right way, then it is still possible to see the Cameroon international as a summer option for the Reds.

Much of that will depend on Salah’s future. If the 32-year-old signs on to stay at Liverpool, they do not need another left-footed forward, really. If Salah leaves, then they absolutely do.

Given that Mbeumo himself only has 18 months left to run on his contract at Brentford, it looks likely that he will be on the market over the summer.

So, he may be off the table for January, but Mbeumo is still very much a player worth keeping watch over for Liverpool fans.
