Darren Bent shares why he still prefers Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to Arne Slot’s

Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp this summer as Liverpool manager, and it’s safe to say that the Dutch coach has flourished in his new role.

The Reds have lost just once in all competitions with Liverpool top of both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League standings, with Slot’s side last night booking passage to the semi-finals of the League Cup.

With 2025 shaping up to be a big year for Liverpool, Slot’s appointment has proven to be a masterstroke for the Reds considering how impossible a task the former Feyenoord manager seemed to have on his hands.

Yet Darren Bent has shared why he still prefers Klopp’s version of Liverpool when compared to Slot’s team.

Klopp’s Liverpool played like ‘maniacs’ compared to Slot’s team

Speaking on TalkSport, the former England international noted how relentless Klopp’s Liverpool side were when compared to Slot’s, who has taken the Reds in a more calm and methodical direction despite the two managers having similar results.

Bent said when asked if Slot’s Liverpool team ar better than what we saw with Klopp during his best years in the Premier League: “I wouldn’t say they’re better. Maybe a bit more composed, but I wouldn’t say better.

“There are times where they [under Klopp] took some stopping, they were full throttle every single game, they used to press like maniacs, Trent would be getting the ball and doing magic down the line, Virgil will be doing the same thing, they were like the Red Arrows.

“So I wouldn’t say they better now, they’re a lot more patient and they wait for their opportunities and then they go. But if you’re asking which one I prefer to watch, that Klopp team when they were all at it, they took some beating.”

Klopp’s Liverpool will go down in history as one of the best and most entertaining sides in Premier League history, with the German manager creating a winning machine that broke numerous records on their way to finally lifting the title after 30 years without success.

And whilst Slot’s Liverpool get results and have produced some good moments, the Dutch coach is lacking that X-factor that made Klopp’s teams so entertaining and devastating to watch during his time at Anfield.

Indeed, it’s still early days for Slot, and the Liverpool manager will find his cutting edge eventually based on how good the 44-year-old’s Feyenoord team was in the years leading up to his move to Merseyside earlier this year.
