Luis Diaz has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season under Arne Slot, yet there was a time in the summer where the winger could have left.
FC Barcelona were strongly linked with a move for Diaz in pre-season, with the Catalan giants keen to bring in the Colombian international before settling on Dani Olmo, a decision that Liverpool fans will be grateful for.
The 27-year-old forward has been impressive this year playing in Slot’s attacking system, with the Liverpool manager recently hailing Diaz after the former FC Porto star’s performance away to Southampton in the Premier League.
Yet Barcelona could now be back in for Diaz heading into 2025.

Barcelona ready to make Diaz their big signing next summer
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are ready to make Diaz their ‘star signing’ of 2025, with Hansi Flick keen to bring in a left-sided attacker who can produce the same amount of output as Brazilian international Raphinha.
With Diaz believed to be disappointed with Liverpool’s latest contract offer, there is a growing chance that the Colombian superstar could well leave Anfield despite enjoying what might be his best year yet in the Premier League.
| Luis Diaz’s 2024/25 Liverpool stats | Games played | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 15 | 5 | 2 |
| League Cup | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| UEFA Champions League | 6 | 3 | 1 |
| Total | 22 | 9 | 3 |
Indeed, Diaz’s form has been impressed for the Reds and is a key reason why Liverpool are now so intent on trying to tie down the winger to a new long-term contract, with Slot managing to get the best out of the South American talisman.
Yet with Barcelona looking to make Diaz their main target for 2025, the prospect of playing for the Catalan giants might be too big to turn down for the 27-year-old attacker, especially with the La Liga side on the up under Flick.

Why Liverpool can’t afford to lose Diaz next summer
With Liverpool having the best array of attacking options in the Premier League, losing one piece in Diaz might not seem like a big problem on the surface given how many forwards the Reds have to call upon.
However, Liverpool simply can’t afford to lose Diaz next summer after the year the winger has had for the Merseyside giants, with Slot managing to get the best out of the Colombian international in a way that Jurgen Klopp wasn’t able to.
Moreover, with Jamie Carragher claiming Darwin Nunez could leave Liverpool next year, Diaz’s presence might be needed at Anfield more than ever if another attacker leaves the club, with the wide-forward too good to be allowed to leave next summer.
