What Liverpool are thinking about selling Caoimhin Kelleher in the January transfer window

Caoimhin Kelleher has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, with the goalkeeper proving his worth and then some between the sticks for the Reds.

The Republic of Ireland international has made more appearances than Alisson Becker with the Liverpool no. 1 suffering from an injury-hit year that has resulted in Kelleher featuring 12 times for the Anfield side in all competitions.

With Alisson now back from injury and the Cork-born talent returning to the bench, speculation has again resurfaced surrounding the 26-year-old shot-stopper’s future, with Shay Given recently urging Kelleher to leave Liverpool at the first possible chance.

Yet Liverpool have something different in mind when it comes to what to do with Kelleher in January.

Kelleher set to remain at Liverpool for the remainder of the season

According to ESPN, Liverpool are unlikely to sell Kelleher in the January transfer window, with Alisson’s injury record this season such that the Reds can’t afford to offload the Irish goalkeeper if the Anfield no. 1 were to pick up another fitness problem.

With Virgil van Dijk lauding Kelleher as ‘world-class’, the Premier League leaders are making a wide decision in keeping hold of the 26-year-old goalkeeper for the remainder of the season, especially with Slot’s side in with a good shot of making another deep run in the League Cup and FA Cup.

Moreover, Alisson’s fitness issues this season could mean that Kelleher’s time between the sticks is far from over, with the Irish international likely to get a few more chances in the starting XI before the campaign is over.

Indeed, Kelleher has proved his worth and then some this season, and waiting until the summer to secure a move away from Anfield could benefit all parties massively, especially if the goalkeeper can once again increase his value.

Kelleher should be guaranteed a big transfer in 2025

Kelleher’s form this season has been nothing short of remarkable, with the Liverpool star showing why he’s arguably the best backup keeper in Europe and one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League full stop.

And having missed out on a big transfer last summer, Kelleher now looks like he will be guaranteed a move at long last in 2025, where interest will be high in the 26-year-old after a string of incredible performances for Liverpool.

With Kelleher’s future best suited away from Liverpool, the Cork-born goalkeeper will want to take every opportunity that comes his way with both hands, and the Anfield star knows he will be a no. 1 somewhere next season if he is patient.
