Liverpool endured one of their most stressful results of the season so far after drawing 2-2 with Fulham at Anfield.

The Reds faced off against the west London side with 10 men for the majority of the match after Andy Robertson was sent off early on against Fulham, with Liverpool coming from behind twice to secure a point against the Cottagers.

With Arsenal failing to win against Everton, though, Liverpool were once again given a huge let-off, with Chelsea now given the chance to close the gap on the Anfield side to two points in the Premier League standings if they can manage a wing against Brentford later tonight.

Yet Steve Nicol has shared how impressed he was by one Liverpool player in particular against Fulham this weekend.

Ryan Gravenberch lauded after ‘flawless’ Liverpool display at centre-back

Speaking on ESPN FC, the pundit showered Ryan Gravenberch with praise after the Liverpool midfielder was forced to play in central defence after Robertson’s sending off, with the Dutch international impressing at the back.

With Arne Slot also amazed by what he saw from Gravenbech playing as a centre-back for Liverpool, the former Bayern Munich man more than impressed in a completely new position for the Reds, with the Anfield side managing to come away with a point against a talented Fulham side.

And Nicol was taken aback by how good the central midfielder was in defence for Liverpool, with the pundit lauding the Dutch youngster as a ‘revelation’ for the Reds having impressed for the majority of the year under Slot.

Nicol said when asked about Gravenberch’s performance: “This guy was absolutely outstanding. He had to go at centre-back, and again, he was just flawless. He’s so cool and confident, he’s been the revelation for Liverpool this year, and we saw it again today.”

Liverpool might have unlocked a new weapon with Gravenberch in defence

With Liverpool fans lauding Gravenberch after his performance against Fulham, it would be safe to assume that the former Ajax wonderkid has unlocked a new skillset to his game that few would have expected.

Indeed the Netherlands midfielder was a towering presence at the back against the Cottagers, with Gravenberch looking like a commanding figure in the defence for Liverpool, even with the Reds down to 10-men.

And with Liverpool already short of midfield options, Gravenberch’s performance at centre-back could give Slot something to think about going into 2025, with the Dutch international a potential option for the Reds if they find themselves short in the defence.
