Liverpool could recall ‘phenomenal’ talent from loan spell after just 165 minutes played

Liverpool are often canny users of the loan system, with the Reds getting some success from this season alone.

Ben Doak has been lauded for his performances in the Championship with Middlesbrough, with the Scotland international playing a key role for Michael Carrick’s side in their push for Premier League promotion.

However, not every loan spell has gone well this season, with Kaide Gordon’s move to Norwich City not working out like many expected from the England youth international, with the winger playing just 165 minutes for the Canaries.

And as a result, Liverpool could be about to pull the plug on the deal.

Liverpool to hold talks with Norwich City on Kaide Gordon’s future

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds will sit down with the Championship side to discuss Gordon’s future, with the former Derby County wonderkid making just eight appearances in all competitions since joining for the season in the summer.

As per the report, there is a chance that Liverpool could recall Gordon in January to organise another loan deal for the 20-year-old attacker, who spent almost two years out injured with the forward only returning to action last year.

Indeed, Gordon was hailed by Liverpool academy coach Barry Lewtas as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, with the winger the second-youngest goalscorer in the Reds’ history after scoring for the Anfield giants back in 2022.

Yet with Gordon hardly getting a look in at Norwich, a recall makes a lot of sense for Liverpool going into January, with the attacker better off heading to another Championship side on loan or even dropping down into League One.

What should Liverpool do with Gordon going into January?

Gordon has shown glimpses of quality this season at Norwich, with the winger lauded by Cody Gakpo and Tyler Morton after scoring against Hull City, the only goal the winger has managed this campaign with the Canaries.

Yet with the forward making just eight appearances and one start for the Carrow Road side, a recall is the safest decision for Liverpool to make in January, with a new loan spell needed for the 20-year-old talent.

Indeed, Gordon has the quality to be a real weapon in the Championship or League One this season, and it’s now up to Liverpool to find the right move for the youngster if he’s to get his development back on track.
