With no game to look forward to on Saturday, Liverpool fans may be casting their eye around the Football League at some of their young players out on-loan.

The Reds were due to play Everton in the weekend’s early kick-off, but strong winds from Storm Darragh have called the game off.

There’s still plenty to look forward to for Liverpool supporters, though, with a number of youngsters in action across the country.

One who has already played this weekend, however, is perhaps the best performing loanee Liverpool have had in a little while.

Ben Doak has been brilliant at Middlesbrough, quickly becoming a key player under Michael Carrick.

And after Doak caught the eye again during Boro’s 1-1 draw with Burnley on Friday, the 19-year-old earned some praise from a Sky Sports reporter.

Ben Doak told he’s playing in a ‘playground’

It hasn’t just been at Boro that Doak has been shining this season. The former Celtic prospect has been dropping jaws with the Scottish national team as well.

Doak received rave reviews for his last appearance for Scotland in November and he appears to have taken that form back to his club as well.

The forward did not score during Friday’s 1-1 draw, but he still looked a threat, with one standout dribble almost producing an incredible solo goal.

And while standing in-front of the cameras for an interview with Sky Sports after the game, the reporter showered further praise on the Liverpool youngster.

“People have always been talking about your performances being on-loan this season,” she says. “What are you making of it, because it’s like a playground for you out there.”

“I wouldn’t quite say that to be honest!” smiles an embarrassed Doak.

“But the runs you go on, the way you run rings around your opponents,” replied the reporter.

“I don’t really see it as trying to make it a playground, it’s just what I’ve been good at since I’ve been young,” says the winger. “So, I figured I just play to my strengths and hopefully I play well doing that.”

Doak amazes with solo run

For anyone who caught any of Boro’s game on Friday, they will know exactly what the Sky journalist was referring to here.

During the first-half of the game, Doak picked the ball up on the far touchline and was immediately closed down by two players.

But the Scot wasn’t fazed one bit, flicking the ball forward, then to his right as he shimmied in between the defenders.

As one player caught back up to him, Doak then spun to his right and made his way inside the penalty area.

Shifting the ball to create an angle for the shot, Doak cut inside to beat another player before unleashing a low effort which flashed past the goalkeeper’s post.

It would be have been the goal of the Championship season so far and highlighted why expectations are so high for Doak at Liverpool. We’ve got a real prospect on our hands.
