Contract negotiations have dominated the landscape at Liverpool this season.
The Reds have put themselves into the disappointing position of playing catch-up as some of their biggest stars run down their deals.
There is still bountiful hope that all three of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold sign on to stay at Anfield. But it’s going to be tight.
In the meantime, sporting director Richard Hughes and his boss Michael Edwards will not want a situation like this playing out at Liverpool again.
As a result, it’s a wise decision for Hughes, Edwards and the Liverpool owners to take a look further down the line and get extensions sorted for other members of the Liverpool squad.
In that respect, Fabrizio Romano has delivered some excellent news on Ibrahima Konate.

Ibrahima Konate set for contract extension
While all the focus has understandably been on Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold, there are further problems brewing for Liverpool in 2026.
Konate is one of a handful of players who’s deal is up in around 18 months.
Thankfully, the word recently has been that Liverpool are working on Konate’s extension as well as that of Luis Diaz, who is out of contract in 2027.
And speaking on his YouTube channel on Thursday evening, Romano reported that the Frenchman’s new deal is almost over the line.

“Let me say, my information is that the conversation for the contract extension of Ibrahima Konate at Liverpool is at the final stages,” says the reporter.
“The agreement is almost done, Konate is expected to extend his contract at Liverpool. The club are very happy with his performances and professionalism.”
Liverpool closing in on ideal situation
While Konate’s future at Liverpool is obviously not the most pressing matter as of now, it is still vitally important.
Say the worst comes to the worst and Van Dijk cannot sort his contract out, the last thing the Reds want is to be in the exact same situation with Ibou one year later.
The 25-year-old has shown that he can take over the mantle of being Liverpool’s number one centre-back whenever it is that Virgil does leave. He needs to be tied down for as long as possible.
Obviously, the ideal scenario is that both players sign up to stay at Anfield the foreseeable.
And, thankfully, it has been reported over the past couple of days that Van Dijk has a good chances of extending his stay as well. This saga has taken time, but we might be about to get the most perfect ending.
