Curtis Jones has been one of the surprises of the season for Liverpool under Arne Slot, with the midfielder thriving for the Reds.

The Liverpool academy graduate has once again taken his game to a new level after another strong season last term under Jurgen Klopp, with Jones now a firmly established member of the Reds senior squad.

Speaking on the Overlap, Wright likened Jones to former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, with the pundit noting on a moment when the Liverpool star took an extra touch when he didn’t need to in the final-third.

Wright said: “You know who used to be like that when I watched him? Ross Barkley, he used to do that, why are you taking the extra touch there? Just get rid of it.”

With Jones admitting that he did something ‘terrible’ in Liverpool’s draw against Newcastle, the 23-year-old midfielder’s performance wasn’t as good as many would have hoped from the youngster given how good he has been this season.

However, comparisons to Barkley are something to be proud of for Jones, and the Liverpool academy graduate knows that this weekend against Everton is another opportunity to impress given the size of the fixture at Goodison Park.
