Everything Arne Slot has touched has turned to gold so far as Liverpool find themselves at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds have won 18 of their 20 games across all competitions under their new manager and are nine points above second-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, while they are 11 clear champions Manchester City.

Sunday’s 2-0 win against the reigning champions was the biggest feather in Slot’s cap as it firmly established Liverpool as title chasers.

After the game, Gary Neville said the Reds are now favourites to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 2020.

And Slot has responded to the Manchester United icon ahead of the Premier League game against Newcastle United.

Before the season began, Neville painted a rather grim picture of Liverpool as he predicted them to struggle after Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

“My view would be the impact of Klopp [leaving] will take its toll, just going off evidence from history,” said Neville on MNF as he predicted the Reds to finish fifth.

However, after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Man City, Neville claimed the Reds were favourites for the title on Sky Sports.

When asked about Neville’s claims, Slot played down talks of winning the title, suggesting that his side will take it one game at a time.

“Gary Neville had a different opinion about us at the start of the season,” said Slot at a press conference.

“I’ve said many times already, we don’t look at it like this. We know we have a difficult week coming up. I think it’s even harder going away to Newcastle. We’re not even halfway through the season yet.”

What next for Liverpool?

With fixtures set to come thick and fast between now and the end of the year, Liverpool know they’ll have a brilliant chance of winning the title if they manage to get through this run unscathed.

The Reds travel to St James’ Park tomorrow to take on Newcastle United, after which a trip to Goodison Park awaits for Slot’s first taste of a Merseyside derby.

Liverpool have been given an injury boost ahead of two tricky away trips as Slot confirmed that Alisson Becker is back fully fit.

Whether or not he replaced Caoimhin Kelleher between the sticks against the Magpies, however, remains to be seen.
